Pedagogy Centre. The Pedagogy Centre supports the Vice Chancellor and Commandant with the educational leadership of the Zimbabwe National Defence University through Administrative and Academic support programmes. The Department is responsible for maintaining and developing the University as a centre of quality and excellent teaching, training and learning.  This involves modeling high quality teaching across the university and to lead the academic staff in the development and refinement of their teaching methodology to improve student learning outcomes. The Pedagogy Department is a key arm of the ZNDU leadership team and performs the following functions:

  • Integrates the ZNDU vision, mission and goals into all aspects of teaching, training and learning.

  • Contributing to and leading colleagues in the implementation of the University’s Staff Development Plan leading to improved student outcomes.

  • Engage in the professional community of teaching and learning by using the ZIMCHE Professional Standards for Lecturers and the professional learning needs of colleagues to plan and lead in the development of professional learning policies and programmes.

  • Manages the University data to demonstrate evidence based teaching by monitoring students’ and university’s teaching and learning outcomes to identify areas of students’ needs and staff professional development.

Activities: The Department adopts a needs based approach to staff development and therefore programmes are tailor-made to close identified gaps. The Department is usually guided by the ZNDU Calendar of Events in fulfilling its mandate.

Achievements:  In the 2026 Academic Calendar, the Department managed to host a workshop on Academic Writing during the first quarter of 2026 with facilitators drawn from Midlands State University (MSU), National University of Science (NUST), Harare Institution of Technology (HIT) and University of Zimbabwe (UZ).

Future Plans: With the Vice Chancellor and Commandant’s approval, the Department intends to attend relevant conferences, seminars and workshops hosted by other Universities to broaden its scope of understanding the diversity of university education and emerging trends in educational technology.
